In 1970, Dr. Hayashi helped develop the first room-temperature continuous-wave semiconductor injection laser with double
heterostructure. In 1971, Dr. Hayashi joined NEC Corporation as a Fellow of the Central Research Laboratories, where he
developed highly reliable lasers for optical communication, optical memory, and many other applications.
