Romano Volta

Romano Volta, "Cavaliere del Lavoro" and doctor in electronic engineering, has served as President of Associazione Industriali Bologna since 1998.

A graduate in electrical engineering from the University of Bologna, Dr. Volta has been a professor at the technical Institute, Aldini Valeriani, and at the University of Bologna.

Born in Bologna, Dr. Volta began his entrepreneurial career there in the 1960s. In 1972, he founded his first company, Datalogic, operating in the field of electron optics. Today Datalogic is an international company, quoted on the Stock Exchange, New Market, with plants in Italy and U.S.A., and with trade branches in Austria, Germany, France, UK, Holland, Spain, Swede, Denmark, Australia, USA, India and Japan.

Datalogic has business relationships with E.M.S. Inc. (Escort Memory System) in Scotts Valley, California, a leader in automatic identification system with radio waves; PSC Inc. of Rochester, New York; and Izumi Datalogic Ltd, a joint venture with the Japanese group Izumi Denki.

Romano Volta also leads DATASENSOR Spa, which operates in the field of industrial automation, and is president of HIDRA Spa, operating in the real estate and financial field.

In 1997 Dr. Volta was nominated Cavaliere del Lavoro by the President of the Italian Republic. He is a member of the board of directors of Cardine Banca Spa and the policy council of the Cassa di Risparmio in Bologna Foundation, president of the project financing company Summa Finance, vice-president of Gruppo Emiliano Romagnolo Cavalieri del Lavoro and member of the board of directors of Johns Hopkins University - Bologna Center, and Fortitudo Basket.
